In our daily lives we use and throw away a lot of things, plastic and otherwise, and this has a big impact on our environment.
So, what we can do to minimise our impact and tread more gently so as to not cause more harm to the environment?
How can we do more to reduce how much we buy?
How much stuff do we have that we don’t really need?
How can we reduce the impact of our choices beyond plastic?
Become a secondhand sleuth!
A great answer is to shop secondhand. There are so many treasures to be found online in buy-swap-sell groups, and also in your local secondhand store or op-shop.
It is amazing how many ‘good as new’ items are available, that may have been used once or twice, or maybe not at all!
Not only is it a chance to avoid buying something new, which uses up resources, it is also a chance to find a bargain.
And who doesn’t like saving some bucks here and there?!
And in reverse, if you have too much stuff that you don’t need – think about selling it or giving it away. Someone else might just be looking for what you no longer need.
Each time you buy something secondhand, it’s another opportunity to tread more gently on the environment.
So, next time you are in the market for an item – have a look at what you can find secondhand near you!
