Go plastic free in the bathroom

Bathrooms can tend to be a haven for plastic – whether through plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, hair products, toothbrushes or body wash containers.

There are many alternative options now available to help reduce the plastic waste created in the bathroom.

Some pretty easy swaps are switching to a bamboo toothbrush and using a shampoo bar. These changes alone will make a big difference, but there is even more you can do.

Here are a few more tips to switch out plastic in the bathroom:

  • If you use deodorant in a plastic container, you could try a natural deodorant that comes in a glass jar or a tin. You’ll be avoiding a lot of chemicals and plastic at the same time.
  • Swap to a plant-based floss in a plastic-free container, to accompany your bamboo toothbrush.
  • If you use body wash in the shower that comes in a plastic container, you could switch to a bar of soap. There are heaps of natural options available, so they’ll be great for your body and better for the environment too.
  • You could make your own body products and buy the ingredients in bulk, using your own containers. I’ve recently made my own moisturiser and it feels much better knowing that the ingredients are all natural and my skin is loving it. You could also make your own body wash and hand wash, there are lots of recipes available online.
  • If your hairbrush is plastic, there are bamboo hairbrushes available that will biodegrade when they are worn out. Another way to switch out the plastic!
  • If you use a plastic disposable razor, you could switch to a reusable razor with replaceable blades. Instead of throwing the whole thing away when it is blunt, the handle will last for life and the blunt blades can be recycled.

We hope these extra tips give you some ideas to replace even more plastic in your bathroom!
